The Indicative Mode

The Indicative mode is used in Spanish when the speaker wants to indicate certainty, or reality. It is used to indicate that the action in question is part of the speaker’s experience.

There are several tenses within the indicative mode. They are:

The Simple Tenses

  • Imperfect
  • Preterite

The Compound Tenses

  • Present Perfect
  • Present Progressive
  • Pluperfect
  • Imperfect Progressive
  • Preterite Perfect (rare)
  • Preterite Progressive (very rare)
